On my second to last day back home I took a trip into the city and was taken to a really nice Greek restaurant followed by a train ride downtown and was treated to a walk along the recently opened High Line park on the West Side.

An old freight rail line that ran from the old meat-packing district to the factories and the post office, the raised rail has been turned into a long, narrow walkway with interesting architectural features and plants along the way.  The most interesting aspect of the park isn’t the park itself, but the surrounding buildings and scenery.  While they did make an effort to clean up the surroundings, they left a lot of the charm in-tact.  It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.  I’m hoping to go back and walk the full-length when it opens in 2010.
