A friend of mine brought to my attention the fact that this website is a bit self-indulgent and perhaps a bit narcissistic. As much as I do love myself, he’s right and I’d be more than happy to share the love if anyone out there wants to get in on it. So what’s happening in everyone’s lives?
Also, I set up a message board mainly as a place for myself and my family to be able to exchange information and keep in touch, but it’s open to anyone who wants to use it. I can’t imagine why you would, but it’s extremely easy to get a user name and post. I set the upload limit quite high, so if there are any files you want to throw up there, feel free. The ‘Matsuuchi Family’ forum is password protected, but the ‘General Posts’ forum is open. Hope to see some stuff (photos, video, etc…) from you guys up there.
Here’s the message board:

I just got back from a fantastic trip to Fukuoka. I’m really tired now and am going to bed in a few minutes, but I’ve uploaded all of the photos from the album. I’ll post some more about the trip within the next week. (This week is going to be a bit busy for me.)
It seems that quite spontaneously, I’m going to be taking a three-day trip to Fukuoka. This will be my second venture to Kyushu in the past month. Although things came together extremely fast, I’m quite excited about visiting the island again and seeing Fukuoka for the first time. I’ve heard that it’s famous for a few things; it’s ramen, being a relatively active hub of multiculturalism and education, its famous street vendors and serving as the gateway to Korea. There are ferries that run between the city and Pusan in South Korea. I wonder if the city has a different feel from that of Shikoku or the rest of Japan. I’m looking forward to being able to put another pin in my map of places I’ve visited in Japan. The number of pins thus far is embarassingly low considering how long I’ve lived in the country.
Regarding this winter holiday, my schedule is set and I’ll be back in the States from December 21 until around the 2 of January. If anyone is going to be around and looking for something to do, get in touch with me somehow and we can meet up. I’m almost entirely free so far. Being a bad friend and not keeping in touch with people seems to have made for what will probably be a relatively quiet two-weeks visit. It doesn’t sound like the worst thing in the world though.
On an entirely different note:
For those who don’t know, my sister spent a few weeks living and working in Kenya this past summer as part of a project for which she received some money from her school. Although her position was intended to be an assistant at a hospital there, she ended up putting in a lot of time at an orphanage there. As a result, she became quite attached to the children living there and has been persuing ways to better the orphanage’s welfare (mainly in the form of monetary support and donations) and by doing so, help the children who live there.
I put together a simple site for the orphanage that includes a ‘list of items’ that are desperately needed. I realize that it may seem a bit strange to request items to be sent to a specific orphanage in Kenya, these are in fact things that they could really use. We’re working on a way to provide some means of providing monetary sponsorhip through the site, but for now we’ll just have to make do with what we have.
