Dizzy

Today was my last morning in the glorious little town of Uwajima located in the southern part of the Ehime Prefecture (the prefecture in which I currently reside). The photo above isn’t a picture from Uwajima though. It’s good to be back in Imabari but I’m feeling exhausted from the traveling. The early morning train was refreshing, but started to take its toll as the day went on. By my last lesson at around 9:00pm, I was about ready to collapse and fall asleep on one of the plastic and steel chairs used by the students. I’m certain that I’ll sleep well tonight.
Also, a friend of mine just bought a domain and rebirthed his old blog into wordpress. Check it out if you have a change. His rantings seem to be slightly less ego-centric than my own as he does tend to discuss politics, culture, current events and a bit of vox populi, vox dei perhaps…?
I’ve been feeling a bit light-headed these past few weeks. I caught a nasty cold a few weekends ago and I believe I’ve almost recovered; there’s this strange lingering light-headedness that’s been bothering me quite a bit though. I’ll go see what the local doctor has to say about it this Monday morning.
Preparing for Fukuoka
Nov 1st

It seems that quite spontaneously, I’m going to be taking a three-day trip to Fukuoka. This will be my second venture to Kyushu in the past month. Although things came together extremely fast, I’m quite excited about visiting the island again and seeing Fukuoka for the first time. I’ve heard that it’s famous for a few things; it’s ramen, being a relatively active hub of multiculturalism and education, its famous street vendors and serving as the gateway to Korea. There are ferries that run between the city and Pusan in South Korea. I wonder if the city has a different feel from that of Shikoku or the rest of Japan. I’m looking forward to being able to put another pin in my map of places I’ve visited in Japan. The number of pins thus far is embarassingly low considering how long I’ve lived in the country.
Regarding this winter holiday, my schedule is set and I’ll be back in the States from December 21 until around the 2 of January. If anyone is going to be around and looking for something to do, get in touch with me somehow and we can meet up. I’m almost entirely free so far. Being a bad friend and not keeping in touch with people seems to have made for what will probably be a relatively quiet two-weeks visit. It doesn’t sound like the worst thing in the world though.
On an entirely different note:
For those who don’t know, my sister spent a few weeks living and working in Kenya this past summer as part of a project for which she received some money from her school. Although her position was intended to be an assistant at a hospital there, she ended up putting in a lot of time at an orphanage there. As a result, she became quite attached to the children living there and has been persuing ways to better the orphanage’s welfare (mainly in the form of monetary support and donations) and by doing so, help the children who live there.
I put together a simple site for the orphanage that includes a ‘list of items’ that are desperately needed. I realize that it may seem a bit strange to request items to be sent to a specific orphanage in Kenya, these are in fact things that they could really use. We’re working on a way to provide some means of providing monetary sponsorhip through the site, but for now we’ll just have to make do with what we have.
If you’re interested, please take a look and feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!
A New Life & Old Photos

It’s been a long time since my last post. Even longer than my usual delayed posts. For the few people who actually keep up with this blog, sorry. And thanks for being the few who do.
I’ve made the move to Imabari City (a small city in the Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku) and things are going well. After about six weeks of life in the city, I feel as though I’ve finally adjusted to living here. I have to admit however that I do miss living in Tokushima. If I’m lucky, perhaps I’ll be able to get back there someday.
The photos I posted were from a trip I took to Hiroshima in early April. I’ve got five or six more albums that I haven’t gotten around to uploading yet. I should have them up before the end of this week. You can find them under the ‘full album’ link. Also, I’ve decided to give Flickr a try and migrate some of my albums from Picasa. Flickr has better iPhoto integration so I thought I’d give it a try. For those of you who still read my blog, be sure to send me a comment! I always love hearing from you!
Much of the Same

I was about to begin my entry in the same way that I’ve done many times before. I realized that saying these past few months have been busy would be more of the same. So I won’t say it again.
There were a few things that went quite well, and a few things that didn’t go exactly as I had expected, but in the end everything worked out. I’ll be starting a new job in Matsuyama at the end of next month (June 25 is my last day at my current job) and I’m looking forward to it.
Leaving Tokushima was an extremely tough decision, but I feel as though this next position may be a step in the right direction. I hope…
I’ve put up some of the highlights of this season’s cherry blossom viewing with my coworkers and Mari-chan. If you’re ever in the area (Kamiyama in Tokushima) during the cherry blossom viewing season, I would definitely recommend paying ’shinrin-koen’ a visit. As usual, I hope everyone is doing well!
